What IoTClass.org actually stores in your browser — mostly local storage, not cookies — and your choices.

This page shows genuine platform policy, not teaching material. The date it was last substantively edited is shown automatically in the banner at the top of every IoTClass.org page — that date is generated from our version-control history at each site build, not typed in by hand, so it cannot drift out of sync with the text below.

The short version

IoTClass.org does not use advertising cookies, does not use Google Analytics, and does not set tracking cookies of its own. Almost everything we store in your browser uses local storage, not cookies, and stays on your device unless you sign in (in which case your learning records are also saved to our database, described in the Privacy Policy). A small number of third-party embeds you choose to use — a YouTube video, a Wokwi simulation — may set their own cookies once you interact with them, under their own policies.

What we store directly

None of this is a cookie in the traditional sense: it is not sent to us automatically with every request, and clearing your browser’s site data for iotclass.org removes it entirely.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookie-free service — it does not set a cookie or local-storage entry to identify you across visits. We also record page views directly to our own database: page URL, referrer, browser/user-agent string, screen size, time on page, scroll depth, and the session identifier described above. This lets us see which content is helping learners. If you are signed in, this record is linked to your account so you can review your own history; if you are not signed in, it is linked only to the temporary session identifier, not to any identity.

We also record your country only — never your exact location or IP address — to power the world-map visualisation of our learner community. We do this with a one-off lookup against a third-party IP-geolocation service at the moment of your visit; that service briefly receives your IP address to resolve it to a country, but we do not store the IP address ourselves, only the resulting country.

We do not use Google Analytics and do not set _ga/_gid-style tracking cookies.

Third-party embeds

YouTube

Some chapters embed YouTube videos in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and a video only loads once you actively press play — until then, no connection is made to YouTube. Once you play a video, YouTube’s own cookies and privacy practices apply: see YouTube’s Terms of Service.

Wokwi

Interactive ESP32 simulation labs are embedded from Wokwi. Wokwi may set its own cookies once you load a simulation, under Wokwi’s Terms.

amCharts

Some interactive charts and the community map use the amCharts library, which runs in your browser to render the visualisation. It does not, to our knowledge, set tracking cookies of its own.

Google

If you sign in, Google’s own authentication flow may set cookies on Google’s domains during the sign-in process. These are governed by Google’s Privacy Policy, not by us.

Your choices

Local and session storage: clear it from your browser’s settings at any time. This signs you out and resets on-device preferences, but does not delete your account or the learning records saved in our database — see the Privacy Policy for how to request that.
Third-party embeds: skip pressing play on an embedded video, or don’t load a simulation, if you’d rather not interact with that provider.
Do Not Track: we do not currently change our analytics behaviour based on the DNT signal, because Cloudflare Web Analytics does not track you across sites regardless of the setting.

Browser controls

Since almost everything we store is local/session storage rather than cookies, browser “cookie” settings mostly won’t apply to it — use your browser’s site-data or privacy settings instead. For the few cookies third-party embeds may set, standard cookie controls apply:
