Case: emitter and detector lenses

A reflective infrared sensor shines infrared light and measures how much bounces back. [Overview: Photons In, Current Out · Infrared reflection]

Teaching view: The dark housing holds a blue emitter lens beside a dark detector lens, with four leads below. The emitter sends light out, and the detector receives light reflected by a target.

The measurement to rememberAn infrared emitter shines light onto a target, and a detector measures the returning light. The amount returned depends on the target’s surface and angle as well as proximity. [Overview: Photons In, Current Out · Infrared reflection]

1 · Case: emitter and detector lenses

A reflective infrared sensor shines infrared light and measures how much bounces back. [Overview: Photons In, Current Out · Infrared reflection]

Teaching view: The dark housing holds a blue emitter lens beside a dark detector lens, with four leads below. The emitter sends light out, and the detector receives light reflected by a target.

2 · Interface: emitter and detector pair

Reflected light intensity can indicate presence or relative proximity when target reflectivity and geometry are controlled. [Overview: Photons In, Current Out · Infrared reflection]

Teaching view: Removing the housing and lenses exposes the two carriers and their metal connections. The emitter and detector work as a pair to send light out and sense its return.

3 · Element: returning-light detector

In a photodiode detector, returning light frees electric charges and produces a current. A readout circuit converts that current into a voltage, and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) turns the voltage into a number. [Overview: Photons In, Current Out · Infrared reflection]

Teaching view: The close view centers on the gold carrier beneath the detector lens. This is the receiving side of the pair, where returning light produces an electrical reading.

Explode separates the conceptual layers; X-ray makes the case translucent. External package dimensions follow the model specification; internal teaching geometry is conceptual, not to scale, and is not manufacturer CAD or a wiring diagram.
